Hunger in Canada
Food insecurity resources and poverty reduction resources to help you learn more and advocate for change.

Food insecurity, being hungry, is not only a real problem for more and more of our neighbours, but it’s also a symptom of the problem — poverty. Addressing food insecurity through emergency food programs, like those available through organizations like Shelter House and the Thunder Bay Food Bank, fills an immediate need. But the issue can only be solved by public policy and supports that ensure all Ontarians have the income they need to afford their basic necessities.
Food insecurity is a serious public health problem in Ontario as well as other provinces across Canada.
Use this resource list as a starting point to learn more about what is being done to address poverty as the root cause of food insecurity.
